An Outstanding Location

Enjoying a privileged location in the heart of Bordeaux’s charming historic centre known as “UNESCO World Heritage Site”, just a few meters from Saint-André Cathedral and opposite the City Hall, Hotel Cardinal reveals itself as a secret haven. With its patio sheltered from the bustle of the city, the hotel offers peace, serenity, and a true sense of escape in the very center of Bordeaux.

A Touch of History

The hotel takes its name from Cardinal Ferdinand François Auguste Donnet (1795–1882), appointed Archbishop of Bordeaux in 1837 and made Cardinal in 1852. Under his influence, the Gironde region experienced one of its greatest movements of restoration and reconstruction of religious buildings.
Listed as a historic monument in 1848, the Pey-Berland bell tower was purchased by Cardinal Donnet in 1851. He restored its original purpose by installing three bells and a bourdon bell, as well as rebuilding its stone spire topped with the monumental Virgin and Child statue, Notre-Dame d’Aquitaine.
